Procrastination

I actually thought with a title like that, I should just write that I would be back later to finish my post.  But now that I am done laughing about it in my head, it’s not funny anymore.

I am having a pretty good time right now procrastinating though.  I have at least 10 things I could be doing, should be doing, and not doing.  So am I doing one of them then?  See how I can turn that around (in my own head) to doing something anyway?

Putting things off just because I don’t feel like doing them doesn’t feel right to me though.  It makes me feel guilty, and lazy, and I know I am better than that.

Procrastination with good excuses is completely justified however.  Its a whole different ballgame if you can come up with creative, yet legitimate reasons why you aren’t doing something(s).  It’s an art form.   And I believe I have perfected it.  For example, at this moment, I know that

1. I should  clean out my car and vacuum it. (meh, its too cold outside. And windy. Besides, I’m not dressed yet.)

2. I should work on some of my projects around here that have been begging for my attention for months.  (but I haven’t decided what to do with them, what color to paint them, what uses I’m going to have for them, etc. (see below.)

3. I should take a shower and get dressed.  (but  I’m comfortable in my jammies and big fluffy robe. Besides, it’s Sunday. And I haven’t finished my never empty cup of coffee.  If  you always add more when theres a sip left in the cup, you never need fear that you’ve finished your coffee.  As an added bonus, you can always make another pot.)

4. I should go through the boxes in the garage and haul out a few more projects.  (but my car is in the way, and I have recycled the ‘its too cold outside’ excuse for use in this instance also.  Besides, I’m not dressed yet because I haven’t finished my coffee.

5. I could be crocheting up a new rag rug.  (no, no I can’t do that, wrong colors of fabric strips, not enough fabrics, need more fabrics.)

which leads us to…..

6. I should shop for more fabrics. (see #3 and 4 for recycling procrastination excuse  ideas.)

7. I should vacuum a couple of rooms.  (but the vacuum is stored in the closet which is directly behind the doggie bed Jack is sleeping on.  I don’t want to disturb him.  After all, it’s Sunday.

8.

Well, now I feel tired from all this thinking, so I will list more excuses in a later post.

Right now I’m going to take a nap.

Wintertime and Pretty Stuff (and I don’t mean snow)

So all the glory and frozeness  (yes I made that word up) is back in mid Michigan!! Yay me!! It snowed all day, so we have about 5 inches of snow, and now the wind is picking up. I’m sitting with a window on my right, which means my right hand is frozen because it sits on the mouse. I have heard for some time that this has been a relatively mild winter, news keeps going on and on about it and I think Hey!! Get off of it, it’s about time it was mild, look at the freakin price of heating fuel! I can’t say it pains me that for one year they might have had to cancel some ‘Ride Around On The Frozen Lake’ event, or that snowmobile sales are down. I don’t ride around on frozen lakes, nor do I snowmobile. And when’s the last time any of the people who do cared about my heating bill? Meh, that’s what I thought, so there.

Anyway, I am back to heat cranking, but hopefully it won’t last. I think I deserve to save a few bucks this year on propane! They’re already getting enough out of me just trying to drive my car. And it’s an election year….I’m sure you are all as excited about it as I am…Not!! (excuse me)

I have used the time somewhat constructively however, by thrift store shopping and finding some pretty sweet vintage pieces! I also finally finished up a few rag rugs, and the big kicker? I actually started my Etsy Store!! Yeah, I know, I have been a slacker, but the boredom of winter finally kicked in, and I feel somewhat accomplished anyway.

Some new rag rugs:

My livingroom looked like a textile mill for a couple of months, strips of fabric everywhere, snipped pieces all over the carpet, (although I did try to vacuum every day) and a thick layer of fabric dust from ripping materials in there. A few weeks of cleaning up my messes  and I realized it would probably be less work later to rip them and clean the stray threads off of them on the back deck, even though 40 degrees isn’t conducive to that job for any length of time. But it was still a mess in there.

Some very pretty finds from thrift stores inspired me to take Etsy-Pinterest worthy pics…what do you think? (these things are in my Etsy store by the way, I gave up on the gluttonous eBay with all their charges)

I am excited to go back and find more yum yums!!

I am also excited about spring, longer days, warmer nights, bonfires, family…..sighhh…oh, and shopping when it’s WARM, and stores that don’t pull in their sidewalks at 6:00. Jeez, 2 days ago we were headed into a thrift store 14 minutes before they closed, and they literally flipped the sign over and locked the door. That’s one of my biggest peeves too! Look, it’s cool with me if you’re open from 10 am until 4:16 pm,but don’t write 4:30pm on  the damn door! Annoying. Oh well, I would have let the air out of the guys tires, but he jumped in his car and drove off. Wouldn’t have been worth the chase.

What’s it like in your neck of the woods? Do the shops keep long hours in the wintertime where it’s warm?
